FAQs
Q: What is Solo Overland?
A: Solo Overland is dedicated to overlanding on one's own. Overlanding is self-sufficient, self-reliant off-road travel on land to remote destinations, where the journey is the principal goal. It is typically accomplished with mechanized off-road capable transportation, where the principal form of lodging is camping, often lasting for extended lengths of time (multiple days, weeks, months, years, a whole lifetime...) and ideally crossing international borders and experiencing different cultures. Overlanding is a lifestyle dedicated to meaningful wandering, exploration, and discovery... Here's another explanation. And another...
Q: Why do you overland alone?
A: The main goal of travel is to experience new places, people, cultures, to enrich one's life experience by opening new vistas. Solo Overland takes the guiding principle of complete and total reliance on oneself and travel adventure to its extreme. Instead of sharing experiences contemporaneously with others, it allows maximum time, space, energy, flexibility, and resources for one's awareness, contemplation, reflection, enjoyment, realization of goals/dreams, and self-actualization -- BEING PRESENT IN THE MOMENT! By focusing on intense personal experiences, one raises (self-)awareness, communes with nature, and immerses oneself into different places and cultures. Personal growth, joy, and transformation can freely occur. Sharing can be done subsequently...
Q: What is your vehicle of choice, and why?
A: The Toyota 4Runner 2018 TRD Off-Road Premium is my vehicle of choice due to its unmatched reliability, solid BOF (body on frame) construction, and proven off-road capabilities, coupled with a diverse parts and accessories aftermarket, and last but not least, great resale value! When on an expedition, the main goal is to travel safely, get to the destination reliably, and return to base as planned, minimizing the negative unpredictables, avoiding any unnecessary obstacles that may jeopardize the journey. Unlike the 4Runner, an unreliable, fussy vehicle that necessitates frequent, lengthy, and costly maintenance and repairs ultimately detracts from the true goals of overlanding: fun, flexibility, readiness, freedom. Simply put, in my opinion, the legendary Toyota 4Runner checks all the right boxes!

Q: Do you have a blog? Social media?
A: Here's our blog, Instagram, and Twitter Thank you for being part of the exciting Solo Overland journey!
